Unable to set home properly as robotic arm keeps moving towards the center of the machine

Whenever I set home on my dobot magician, it doesn’t go to 250(x), 0(y), 0(z)
I read other posts on the forums but even after following the step to go teach and play, setting a new home, my arm doesn’t go back to home. it is unable to set home as it keeps going towards the center of the robotic arm. I reset it a couple of times and even re-downloaded the dobot studio but it keeps occurring.

Hi,

Dobots magicians and the previous dobots don’t have absolute encoders. So whenever you power off, reset the software or the stepper motors get overpowered…it simply loses position. It does not known where it is in its work area.

Combined with lots of play in the joints it is not very precise. This is overcome by sensing the position with a camera or similar. hence it moves relative to what it ‘sees’.

This was no good for my application.
